Femtosecond Pulse Modeling

VirtualLab Fusion facilitates the propagation of

  • picosecond,
  • femtosecond, and
  • attosecond

pulses through macroscopic and microscopic optical setups. To that end VirtualLab Fusion employs the field tracing concept, which, as the name suggests, traces full electromagnetic fields through the optical setup using a combination of geometrical and physical optics.

The propagation of an 5 fs pulse through seawater is studied in VirtualLab. The broadening of the pulse and the change in its temporal profile due to dispersion of the material are shown.

The focusing process of a 10 fs pulse by using a high-NA parabolic mirror is modeled in VirtualLab, and both the spatial and temporal behaviors are investigated.
