Distortion Analyzer

Abstract

Lenses are an integral part of imaging system design. It is therefore essential for any optical engineer to be able to analyze their performance in detail. One well-known detrimental effect is distortion, which leads to a deviation of the lateral position of the beam with respect to the reference position at the focal plane. In this tutorial we introduce a tool to investigate this effect, using a spherical lens as an example.

Use Case

Performance Evaluation of an F-Theta Scanning Lens

With the scanning source in VirtualLab Fusion, we analyze the performance of an F-Theta lens, by measuring the focal spot position deviation and the spot size for different scan angles.

Tutorial

Field Curvature Analyzer

The field curvature describes the difference between the designed focal plane and the actual focal curve of an objective (lens).
