The latest release VirtualLab™ 5.1 introduces several novelties and improvements. First, a 3D view of the entire system has been introduced making the system setup easier. A ray tracing mode is available now which gives a first insight about the behavior of systems. Catalogs for light sources and co...

Software Courses 2012 – First Announcement

(November 28, 2011)

In order to allow a reliable planning for our customers we have scheduled two software courses for 2012 already. The two courses are

Course 1: April 24 - 27, 2012 "Introduction to Unified Optical Modeling using LightTrans VirtualLab™" Speaker: Dr. Michael Kuhn, LightTrans Target Group: ...

Unified optical modeling by field tracing

LightTrans continues with its trendsetting strategy in optics software development. VirtualLab™ is the first field tracer on the market. Instead of ray bundles, harmonic fields are traced through the system. Hence field tracing utilizes and provides more information about the light in your optical system. In short field tracing delivers results

  1.  fully vectorial,
  2.  as accurate as required, and
  3.  as fast as possible.

Your Benefit

  • Full vectorial field information available throughout the modeling.
  • Field tracing allows unified optical modeling, that means all simulation techniques work smoothly together.
  • Advanced source modeling is enabled, including partially coherent light and ultrashort pulses.

Selected Features

Ray tracing engine to pick you up where you are in optical modeling. We at LightTrans know, that optical engineers and scientists start thinking about optics in ray bundles if possible. That is one reason for VirtualLab™ to come with a powerful ray tracing engine. In addition we need this engine as one pillar for those field tracing techniques which are based on geometrical optics.

VirtualLab™ includes a ray tracing engine, that picks you up where you are in optical modeling.

Numerous modeling techniques in one optics software. Field tracing allows the use of literally any modeling technique if it is formulated for vectorial harmonic fields. VirtualLab™ provides simulation techniques covering the range from geometrical optics to full electromagnetic methods on one single platform. That offers an unsurpassed flexibility and efficiency in modeling.

Automatic selection field tracing in homogeneous media. The unification of numerous modeling techniques on one platform demands the selection of suitable ones in different subdomains of the system. VirtualLab™ extensively supports the user by that for instance with an automatic selection operator for propagation through homogeneous media. In addition in most modeling situations the user does not have to care about sampling issues.

Polarization view of harmonic fields. Filed tracing is based on fully vectorial field information throughout the modeling. Of course that ensures complete inclusion of polarization effects in modeling and insight in the state of polarization of the fields. Thus VirtualLab™ is ideal for any simulations in which polarization is of concern.

Maximum flexibility in detector specification. The electromagnetic field representation in VirtualLab™ ensures full access to any parameters of the fields. Hence any quality measure and merit function can be formulated. In VirtualLab™ such measures are included in detectors. Customized detector solutions are enabled by programming small modules in C#. LightTrans delivers such customized modules if needed.
