Jena Photonics Fabrication Network™ - JPFN™

Innovative optical systems frequently contain components which require a variety of novel optics fabrication techniques in addition to classical ones. LightTrans has arranged a powerful network of experienced fabrication partners located in Jena and its neighborhood, the Jena Photonics Fabrication Network™. This enables LightTrans to deliver optical components and systems in addition to our design services. The fabrication process is often typically a composition of diverse steps:

Mastering Processes Different kinds of optical functions require different kinds of surfaces and materials. Master elements are fabricated in materials like resist, fused silica or metal. Surfaces may be continuous or stepped. The elements shown in separate figures were fabricated by e-beam lithography at the Institute of Applied Physics at the University of Jena, which is our fabrication partner for demonstrators in LightTrans’ Jena Photonics Fabrication Network™.

Replication Processes For series production it is often necessary to transfer the desired structure of the master element to replicas. Various replication techniques are available in the network, for example UV-molding, photo lithography, electroplating, hot embossing and injection molding.

Finishing Processes Typically, one or more finishing processes are required before high quality optical elements can be delivered. Service at Jena Photonics Fabrication Network™ is completed by our partners for coating, separation, assembly and testing.

Managing Processes LightTrans manages all production steps within the Jena Photonics Fabrication Network™. Our expert partners are located in the region of Jena. This ensures cost and time efficient production. Backup sources are available within the network. We are also active in developing technical processes for product and feasibility studies.
